Our Mission

Mission

Local Staff International’s mission is to safeguard the rights and dignity of local staff worldwide, ensuring comprehensive support and advocacy for their essential roles in global missions.

We strive to ensure their protection and support needs are met during and after their employment while promoting the implementation of worst-case scenario plans and procedures by employing states and other relevant employers. We lobby for the provision of comprehensive legal, social, psychological, and medical support for Local Staff, to address any issues arising from their employment and safeguarding their overall welfare.

Vision

Our vision is a world where Local Staff supporting humanitarian, development, diplomatic, civilian and/or military missions are valued, protected, and empowered. We envision a future where employing countries and (international) organisations prioritise the well-being of Local Staff, proactively implementing plans and procedures to mitigate risks. We aim for Local Staff to have access to comprehensive support systems that address their diverse needs, ensuring their safety, rights, and dignity. Through our advocacy efforts and partnerships, we strive to create a global environment that recognises and upholds the vital contributions and unique challenges that Local Staff face.

We share best practices with national and international partners to enable them to confidently navigate global protection challenges related to their local staff and offer training and resources to enhance local staff’s professional and personal empowerment.
